I'd never thought about it, but you're totally right about Finnish people avoiding compliments! The first few times I ever cooked for my partner's parents, I thought they must've hated what I cooked. After a while I realized that it was normal. Now, if they compliment something I've done, I know that whatever I did must've been really good. In a way, it makes the compliment more meaningful.
I appreciate your overall cultural whirlwind description. I now live in a place where passersby on the street look each other in the eye, greet each other, and routinely discuss the weather, nearby planter or trash receptacle, the weather some more, before moving on to the recent sporting events. When visiting Poland, I take a few days (and many suspicious looks) to dial down my street friendliness. 😀
I appreciate that your daughter has stated affirmatively that she won’t kill your son. And that she thought about it before saying so.
It's all positive signs, I think.

Haha, I know what you mean.
Lovely story. I would probably show up in a coat like your Mom’s but definitely unsexy boots. Appreciate your daughter’s statement- too funny.
Like her grandmother, my daughter is a very funny girl.
Beautiful Wil
Easy with the compliments, buddy.
Nice 🥰
