Bob Dylan’s voice is beautiful. It sounds just like Bob Dylan, even when he wanted to sound like Woody Guthrie. His has been a voice in my life since I was 9 years old, and I’ve always loved it. Glad you appreciate it, too.
‘explosive release of unrefined but brutally efficient and joyous power’ … perfect!
I had last seen Dylan live at the Spectrum in Philadelphia when he was doing his arena tour with The Band, back in 1974, when my son and I went to see him at an outdoor amphitheatre with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp two summers ago - all of them in their 70s, like me. And your words capture exactly what we felt.
I’m really really pleased you had such a time Will. I saw Dylan in 1996 and it remains, of thousands of gigs, by some distance the worst I’ve ever been to - a shambling, inaudible nonsense with utter distain for those attending. I wish it had been different and I’m delighted it was for you!
Thanks Mark. Yeah from what ive read and experienced, I think he has been really working on his voice the past years and his shows have improved because of it. He is by no means chatty with the audience, but I think the music has been getting better and better each show ive been to..
I saw Van M for the nth time recently and I found it heartbreaking how disinterested he is on the crowd, his own songs (he played only one of his own songs) and in the joy (or at least the emotion) of music, and Dylan felt similar when I saw him so it’s really good to hear you’re enjoying him live. It always seems such a waste when anyone has such distain for the beauty they’e created and the love others have for them and it
Well, I won't lie, I'd love if he'd bantered a little about the Finnish chocolate he enjoyed on the way to the gig or how good the sauna is here, but I'm far from disappointed he doesn't. I feel it says more that, at 85, he still visits little ol' Finland. (tho that does sound disappointing about Van)
