You're very welcome. Thanks for the kind message, Mark. I love so much about life here and it is a genuine pleasure to sit down to share my immigrant impressions. Thanks again and hope you're well.
Yum, yum. Can't wait to make this pot of crunchy, creamy, gooey deliciousness! The Easter witches sounds like an interesting tradition. I have one question, Wil. Which language do you communicate in as a family?
I hope you like it as much as I do. Though I know any fan of bread pudding/ creme brulee can't be too disappointed by it. And your question... We talk almost exclusively in English at gome. The kids go to Finnish school and we all only talk Finnish at their grandparents/aunts etc here. It works well for us so far.
I will add though, I didn't have my kitchen blow torch (we are at my parents in law's place) and I used the grill. The result isn't as good but works ok if you are careful not to burn the bun.
Thoughtful of you to share that. I may even caramelise some bananas to go with mine. Thinking out loud, I reckon pearl sugar could also add some sweet crunch as an option with no blowtorch…
French toast with a brulé topping, oh my goodness! My kids would think I re-invented the wheel. Will make.
Thank you for this charming post. I love reading about different cultural traditions. It is these practices that make us into the people we are. Thank you for sharing this little window into Finnish tradition.
Thanks, Sheryl. Sharing things about my life here in Finland is one of the parts I enjoy most about this newsletter of mine. Lovely to think it's of interest.
That sounds delicious and I will have a go although shhhh I don’t have a blow torch🤭
It is a gadget I value a great deal but if your grill is very efficient it might just work. My grill sucks.
"Well, if that sounds good to you, you’d maybe not hate it."
Umm, actually it sounds REALLY good to me, Wil - any chance we can get your recipe for mämmi too 😝?
I'm no mämmi expert.maybe I can manage it in time for next year.
Haha thanks and good luck!
It's an incredible process that takes many hours and precise temperatures. Thanks for the challenge!
You're most welcome, Wil 😉! I love tormenting people I admire…
Bun brûlée is brilliant, Wil.
And that rabbit with the empty wheelbarrow terrorizing the chickens is like a leporine Child Catcher. Truly chilling.
Oh Procopio I do get inappropriately excited when you roll out the “leporine” level vocabulary in my comments.
How very caprine of you.
You had me at "honey custard bun brûlée pudding"! And now I'm thinking how good that would be with a brioche bun ...
Brioche buns would be awesome.
What a pud! Right up my street. And thank you Will, for the window into what looks like a really special place

Happy Easter! My buns are in the oven (without the euphemism!). The next hour will go slowly, I can tell...
And to you! I made this again yesterday. Fewer buns, more custard. Really love it. Hope you do too!
Oh, I will. 😋
