Loved this! And seeing your little part of Finland!
My cousins in Finland have a summer cottage, too. They live in Helsinki but I think their cottage is quite far away. They don't get there as often as they'd like. That planked salmon looks wonderful!
When my wife was growing up their cottage was on the other side of the country. This island cottage in the video is my parents in law's and luckily it's just a short drive away. Though it is now rather inaccessible as the water is all frozen!
Finally had a moment to watch the video. It's great, partly because it's genuine and so unlike the videos we see on IG and elsewhere, but also because you're a natural! Thanks for posting it. P.S. I love your dog.
Thank you so much, Domenica! I can't stand most of what passes as a cooking video online these days. Nor do I have the technical proficiency to try and emulate them. But this was fun to make.
I’m not sure I have the intestinal fortitude to make this. But damn, it looks good. I’m saving the article and hoping one day I’ll be willing to take the plunge.
So visceral and beautiful, Will. I've have low-temp oven-roasted salmon but your live fire cooking imparts much more flavor. Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge and experiences.
Thank you so much, Andrea. And thank you so much for the subscription and recommendation. I'm really very touched by your support. It means so much to me to.
Loved this one. The b-roll and music was excellent. Such a vibe you’re cultivating in these videos. I’d seriously watch these every week just for the vibe. Excellent stuff
What a feast, Wil. I love that the pause to gaze at the lake was just long enough to give me an appetite for that beautiful salmon. Pacific Northwest American Indigenous tribes also cooked salmon on cedar planks- what great minds of cooks thinking alike can do. Oh, and yes, mushrooms, over an open fire.
Ah, thanks so much kate. I'm no video editor but it was fun to make. And that is fascinating about the indigenous tribes. I was sure it wasn't just a Finnish thing but it's beautiful to see such similar techniques and tools used from so far apart.
Haha, thanks, James. Though I fear autumn's severe gaze has already turned oour way here in Finland. I don't think we have many days like the one I recorded that video left.
Thanks, Nadia. Yeah he is a sweet little guy. Glad you liked the video, are you getting a house of your own soon or is that a future plan? A fire pit will definitely make a great addition to your new place whenever you get it.
A particularly nice part of Finnish life is these "summer cottages" a lot of people own. Normally very modest little houses near lakes or the sea. We couldn't do any open fire cooking near our apartment but we get that chance at the summer cottage.
What a kind and generous message, thanks. Yeah this was fun to record. I rather enjoy it as well. Recording can be a lot of work but on sunny days like this I can't complain!!

Wonderful! I have done this plank cooking on a grill before- love the wood-burning and crucified aspect!! Beautiful!

Absolutely looks delicious, Wil!
Thanks for having a watch, Jolene. It is a lot of fun to make.

It really is so much fun. Well, at least I think so. And it really does make for a beautifully cooked piece of fish.
I’ll keep trying to psych myself up. Salmon is my favorite fish.
It looks like hot smoked salmon - you can purchase it here - at the harbour.
Yes please, hot smoked salmon by the harbour sounds like a good combination! Where is "here" for you?
We are in the United Kingdom.
I love your little furry helper. This is lovely!
He is great. So sweet and so gentle with the kids. Thanks for having a watch, Hanne. It means a great deal to me.

My complete pleasure, Will.

Looks absolutely delicious! Definitely be trying this one in the future, once I've got myself a suitable fire pit that is.
Thank you so much. Good luck with the pit! Be sure to share some pictures if you ever get round to it.
That’s one of the most relaxing things I’ve watched. Lovely
Thank you. I'm a big fan of that chill music as well.

Absolutely smashing.
Ah, thanks bud. Been looking forward to finding time to do this one this summer.
Excellent video and fine location. Nice spot to do a few more if time permits - outdoor fire pits go a long way for production value- cheers!

Yeah, I just googled, dacha give a very similar feel. Its all new to me coming from England but I'm already in love with summer cottage life.
